White lilies remind me of working in London in the 1980s for an architectural practice in Notting Hill. One of my duties was to get the meeting room ready for clients, with fresh white lilies, fresh coffee and croissants from Kensington High Street.

When I was growing up in Vanuatu we had one of these glorious trees in our garden. It is also called a Christmas Tree as it flowers at Christmas time. My parents built an orchid house around it to grow their orchid collection, and my job as a kid was to help water them, one of those evening rituals, the memory of it is evoking smells of the end of a hot tropical day and family time together. It is weird how memories and smells are closely linked.

This shade looks stunning in a contemporary living space with a bright splash of pattern and colour.

My designs are inspired by living in Cornwall, walking along the coastline and the unique Cornish hedgerows, foraging for season treats, fishing and growing fruit and veg.Walking down a small track towards Polly Joke Beach near Crantock in Cornwall, there is a cluster of teasel bushes that stand proud against the skyline. These teasel heads are beautiful on a cold crisp autumn morning, and I have tried to evoke their natural beauty through a few simple strokes.

The Hellebore flower is a winter bloom, hiding their beautiful flower heads which bow down towards the ground. They look so pretty on a Christmas dinner table decoration. I love the different varieties available and trying to grow them successfully in my garden!

I grew up in the tropics, in a small group of islands called Vanuatu in the Pacific. Bird of Paradise flowers were commonplace there, but in the UK people grow Strelitzia in their hothouses. In the warm climate of Cornwall where I live now, the plants are moved outdoors during the summer months. I met an elderly couple in Newquay recently who had 30 plants, which started off as a tiny cutting from her mother. This design originally started off as a bespoke request from one of my regular customers, who was looking for a tropical feel to her lounge, and it is rapidly becoming one of my best sellers.
