An illustration inspired by visiting the National Dahlia collection near Penzance, fields hosting a stunning collection of blooms, with a mass of varieties and colours. The best time to visit is in early September, when the blooms are at their peak.  In 2021 the National Dahlia Collection was moved to Kehelland Trust by Louise Danks and is available for the public to view.  The collection is maintained by Louise and a team of volunteers.

15% of the proceeds of any sale on my Dahlia designs will go to The National Dahlia Collection at Kehelland Trust to support the wonderful work carried out there to preserve and promote Dahlias.

St Piran’s Pebbles art print from Cornwall
St Piran’s Pebbles art print from Cornwall

Studio, St Ives Sculpture Garden 1
Studio, St Ives Sculpture Garden 1

Sculpture Garden Studio print, St Ives Cornwall art.

My illustration is printed onto high quality etching paper 310gsm, each print is signed and dated.

The print is unframed and packaged in cellophane with a backing board.

Size :

A4 size paper, which is 210 × 297 millimeters or 8.27 × 11.69 inches

My illustration is inspired by visiting the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden in St Ives Cornwall. There is something almost “Miss Haversham” about the Studio, a gentle feeling of decay, yet it looks as Dame Barbara has just downed her tools and walked out of the room, or stood up from the Bertoia chair after a contemplative break in the greenhouse room, even though it is over 40 years now since the Museum was opened to the public. Well worth a visit!

This print would be a perfect reminder of a visit to the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Gardens, and an attractive print to suit any home from mid century inspired to contemporary.

Bird of Paradise Flower wall art print
Bird of Paradise Flower wall art print

Bird of Paradise flower print, tropical flower wall art. High quality art print on archival heavy weight paper.

I grew up in the tropics, in a small group of islands called Vanuatu in the Pacific. Bird of Paradise flowers were commonplace there, but in the UK people grow Strelitzia in their hothouses. In the warm climate of Cornwall where I live now, the plants are moved outdoors during the summer months. I met an elderly couple in Newquay recently who had 30 plants, which started off as a tiny cutting from her mother. This design originally started off as a bespoke request from one of my regular customers, who was looking for a tropical feel to her lounge, and it is rapidly becoming one of my best sellers.

Olive Augusta Surf Girl print

Best seller Olive Augusta is one of my designs from my Vintage Surf set of illustrations.

Size : A4 size paper, which is 210 × 297 millimeters or 8.27 × 11.69 inches

This print would make the ideal gift for someone who loves the water, whether it is swimming in the sea, or ponds, or lidos, or surfing with traditional wooden boards. Belly boarders love this print, and I’m often told that they had a hat like this flowery swim hat, or that they still have their wooden boards in the garage that they learnt to surf with.

My illustrations are inspired by my family’s bellyboarding heritage in Cornwall, UK. My grandparents both grew up in Perranporth in Cornwall, and my grandmother’s family started surfing and making wooden boards after the First World War. I remember my great Uncle Arthur taking his wooden belly board down to the beach at Perranporth when he was well into his 70s!

The World Bellyboard Championships are organised by the National Trust and take place in Cornwall each year in September. No wetsuits are allowed and prizes are won for the best outfits, which involve a lot of flowery hats, fifties swimsuits and all in one knitted stripey costumes for the men which sag upon contact with water.

My grandmother was called Olive Augusta, and although I don’t have a photo of her in a flowery swim hat, I like to think that she would have protected her perfectly coiffed hair in something very beautiful and rubbery against the salty seawater!

Size : A4 size paper, which is 210 × 297 millimeters or 8.27 × 11.69 inches

My illustrations are inspired by my family’s wooden board surfing heritage. My grandparents (Arthur Roy and Olive Augusta) both grew up in Perranporth in Cornwall, and my grandmother’s family started surfing and making wooden boards after the First World War. I remember my great Uncle (also called Arthur) taking his wooden belly board down to the beach at Perranporth when he was well into his 70s! His son told me recently that Uncle Arthur had made his own Malibu surf board in the 1950s.

George is my new guy, he is modern vintage Cornish. He wears his hair in a quiff and sports a magnificent beard. A dapper kind of chap, he loves living by the sea, and when he’s not in it he is doing something creative like whittling a wooden spoon or cooking fresh mackerel on an open fire on the dunes, watching the sunset.
